I am an experienced, qualified and accredited counsellor and psychotherapist in Finchley, I hold an MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Minster Centre / Middlesex University, London.
I have worked as a counsellor within the NHS, voluntary, charitable and private sectors with a wide range of client groups and issues such as anxiety, depression, bereavement, coping with terminal illness and relationship challenges. I incorporate different approaches in my counselling and psychotherapy to best meet your needs.
My role as a psychotherapist is to support people during a life crisis, help improve quality of life and better manage relationships, as well as helping to promote emotional growth and develop self-awareness.
I understand that opening your heart to a stranger may feel intimidating or unnatural. Indeed, it is a brave move. For that reason, our first counselling session is an assessment so that we can get to know each other and establish whether we can continue to work together. I endeavour to offer a warm, supportive and non-judgemental therapeutic space in which we can explore your emotions, feelings and experiences to reach a deeper understanding and move forward with wider possibilities.
No two people are alike which is why, during your counselling, I treat you as a unique individual and explore your life patterns and narrative with intent and attention.

As an Integrative Psychotherapist I am trained and work with a number of methodologies, including Relational, Existential and Psychodynamic approaches. Psychotherapy helps us understand better how we behave, what motivates us, and how past experiences can affect current behaviour. By expressing whatever is uppermost in our mind, feelings, thoughts, wishes, fears, memories and dreams can be explored within the safety of the therapeutic relationship.

I am a BACP accredited (2003) and UKCP registered (2004) Integrative Psychotherapist. I abide by the BACP and UKCP code of ethics.
I have over 25 years experience of working with adults and young people. I see people individually, either short-term for between 6 and 12 sessions, or long-term, for more in depth work, which may be for a number years or more.
I provide a safe and confidential space in which people can express their feelings, and talk about any difficulties that they are experiencing. Rather than giving advice or providing answers, my skill is to help and support people in a non-judgmental way, to find their own answers and deepen their self-awareness. My style of work is grounded in my understanding of the uniqueness of each person who comes to see me, and for us to work together to try and make sense of their thoughts, feelings and sense of self. This can involve exploring the meaning and importance of their personal experiences, relationships and particular circumstances.
I trained at The Minster Centre where I was awarded a Diploma and MA in Integrative Psychotherapy in 2000. Since then I have been, and continue to run my private practice in Islington. In the past I have also worked in Schools and Hospitals.

MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy, Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy, MA in (Sci) Education, CBTi (insomnia).
I qualified at the Minster Centre with an MA and Advanced Diploma in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy after working for two years at an NHS agency.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I was a researcher at a London University working on educational texts.
Before this I was a secondary school teacher in Brent, teaching science subjects.
I am registered with the UKCP and am fully insured.
My websites are: https://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/lynda-woodroffe
And https://www.lyndawoodroffe.co.uk/
I was not born in this country and have travelled extensively. I feel that this has been a very good part of my education and helps in my understanding of my clients.
My practice typifies someone who lives and works in London with clients from many cultures and backgrounds.
I am also qualified to help you if you have problems sleeping.
I can analyse your sleeping style and explain how you can develop better sleeping habits and improve your daytime habits to enhance your sleep experiences. Understanding about sleep hygiene, how and why we sleep are important routes to overcoming sleep disturbances and insomnia. Being unable to sleep is detrimental to your physical as well as your mental health. It will affect your sense of well-being, your efficacy at work, your memory, your bodily functions and your relationships.
Interests: Mountain walking, skiing, dance, the arts, gardening.
Voluntary work: I am on the editorial board of the online journal, Contemporary Psychotherapy, recruiting authors, and reading and editing on articles, getting them ready for publication.
I also offer academic help for students of psychotherapy and proof-read essays.

I have worked in both the NHS and as a consultant in Private Practice for over 20 years. Integrative Psychology/Psychotherapy/Counselling aims to bring different therapeutic models, methods, theories and philosophies together in a practical and principled way. My therapeutic approach integrates elements of: Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural [CBT] Therapies, with both a Relational and Humanistic emphasis on a direct and authentic relationship. My practice has a foundation in both Mindfulness and a radical acceptance of the human condition – these principles underpin all my work.
Evidence Based Therapies: Research has shown the therapies that I deliver; to be effective across a range of presenting difficulties. [NICE NHS Guidelines]
For Individuals I offer both; Brief, Short Term Therapy as well as Open Ended Therapy.
I also work with Couples and Groups and offer consultations to organisations.
