I have been in private practice since 1986, working with individuals, couples, groups and organisations. My aim is to help you to a deeper understanding of your relationships, with yourself, your partner, family and at work. Or the aim might be self-development, a desire to live a more fulfilling life. I have worked in many settings, including the NHS, Social Services and the business community, including the creative industries, and I have a special interest in all aspects of creativity.
I am a BAPPS accredited supervisor and have supervised therapists, counsellors and psychologists from a wide range of modalities.
Initially I trained with the Minster Centre, followed by a training with the Association of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the NHS and I obtained an MA in psychoanalytic studies linked with the arts from the Tavistock Centre. I am a Training Group Analyst and member of the IGA (Institute of Group Analysis) and I am a member of FiP, (Forum of Independent Psychotherapists)

I have been practicing as an Integrative Psychotherapist since I qualified in 1999 from the Minster Centre. I am also a supervisor and have been involved in teaching at a number of therapy training organisations for many years. I aim to develop a safe space to explore current difficulties and think about how we may be impacted by early experience and our patterns of relating.
I am UKCP and BACP accredited and am committed to expanding my practice through continuous professional development. I have a background in mental health and learning disability.

I am a fully trained integrative counsellor and a registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I work with individual adults of all ages in weekly sessions on a long-term, open-ended or short-term basis.
I offer a non-judgemental space in which you and I can explore what may be blocking you from feeling more comfortable in yourself, your life and your relationships.
As an integrative counsellor I bring to my work an interest in attachment, child development and relational body psychotherapy. This means that I pay particular attention to early childhood experiences and relationship patterns, as well as our here-and-now experience, especially that which is most difficult to articulate. Most importantly, I listen and attend to what you bring to each session.
I have experience of working with relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, chronic ambivalence and indecision, infertility, adoption and parenting.
I have worked in a play therapy setting with children at a South London primary school, and with adults at therapy services in Wandsworth and Queens Park.
I know it can feel daunting to meet a new or first therapist so it is important to find someone with whom you feel comfortable. The first session is a chance for us to get a sense of whether we can work together, and there is no obligation to continue if not. If you have any questions please do get in touch.
I hold a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre.
I am a registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and I abide by their code of ethics.
I also belong to the following professional associations:
The Relational School
Psychotherapists and Counsellors for Social Responsibility
I am committed to regular continuing professional development to inform and enhance my practice.
My fees are £65 for a 50-minute session. I may be able to offer sessions at a lower fee for those with limited means. Please ask if you feel this applies to you.

UKCP Registered Integrative Psychotherapist working from The Practice Rooms in Summertown, Oxford, where I offer both individual and couples sessions.
People decide to come for Counselling for all kinds of different reasons. It may be in response to a particular problem that has happened in their lives and has knocked them ‘off balance’ or it may be something they have been considering for a long time. On the other hand, it may be something that has been suggested by someone close to them or by a professional, such as a GP. Whatever the reason, it can be daunting to consider counselling or psychotherapy and confusing to know which counsellor to choose for the best. There are many different kinds of approaches and all the recent research has confirmed that the most important element in getting a good outcome from therapy is the interaction or connection between you and your counsellor. It’s all about who will work best for you.
Please have a look around my website at www.paulamaddisoncounselling.co.uk and if you think I might be the right psychotherapist for you to work with then make a booking for an initial session, where we can find out.
If you make the decision to book a first, exploratory session with me then, during that first session we will explore your reasons for coming to therapy and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. It is also a chance for both of us to assess whether we feel we’re suited to working together, and there is no obligation to meet again. If the decision is not to work together, then I am happy to refer you on to another counsellor or psychotherapist if you wish.
