We all feel overwhelmed at times, and these feelings can be transient or more long-lasting. It can be helpful to explore your thoughts and emotions in a safe, non-judgmental space. I am not here to advise you but rather to support your own choices. Together we can gain an understanding of what brings you to therapy now, and the thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour which may have been in place for some time. It can be useful to talk to someone outside your circle of friends and family to gain an understanding of your challenges and emotions. I am interested in building an empathetic relationship which allows you to make sense of your experiences and gives you the insight to make the choices that will support your wellbeing.
I am a UKCP-registered, integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw from a range of different theoretical models to support our work together. I aim to allow clients’ agency in the therapeutic process so that we can work together to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and experience.
I have experience working with many issues including depression, anxiety, relationships, parenting, immigration, health concerns, bereavement, loss and work-related stress. I work in person in Queen’s Park and East Finchley. I also offer online sessions. I have experience of working in a bereavement service and I have worked as an assessor and intake counsellor for low-cost therapy services. I offer both short-term and open-ended therapy. I offer a discounted rate for trainees.

I have a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from the Minster Centre and have a Masters Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am a Registered Member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work according to the BACP Code of Ethics. I am also a Registered Member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
As an integrative therapist I draw on several different psychological schools of thought. In practical terms this means that I can tailor different psychological approaches to fit a client’s specific needs. My clients come from all walks of life and bring a variety of issues, including anxiety, depression, bereavement, early attachment trauma and difficulties in forming relationships.
I have spent a large part of my working life in Africa, developing educational media for rural audiences. A vital part of this work has been to listen to people, however different their backgrounds and experiences are from my own, and communicate in an empathetic and non-judgemental way.
I also have extensive experience of working with clients who have been to boarding school.

I am an integrative psychotherapist (UKCP, MBACP, and practitioner member of the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network).
My practice is influenced by a variety of therapeutic approaches. My focus is relational, attachment-informed and embodied. This means I believe we can gain as much insight from how we interact, as from the content of what we say. My practice draws on childhood, inter-generational and wider cultural experiences to make sense of thoughts, feelings and sensations in the present. I believe that working with our physicality and paying attention to our bodily sensations can enhance our understanding of ourselves.
I work in person (Islington) and online. Please email me ([email protected]) or contact me via my website https://www.claudiacoussinstherapy.com

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist offering sessions in Brockley and Honor Oak. I support my clients to learn about themselves, to make meaning from difficult experiences and to develop new ways of being that serve them in their present lives. I am frequently struck by my clients’ courage in facing themselves and their experiences, and consider it a privilege to be with them as they do so. Simply acknowledging a need for help can often be enormously difficult.
I recognise that all sorts of things may bring people to therapy. Sometimes it’s a life event or transition that feels overwhelming. Sometimes it’s because we find ourselves struggling in relationships, or troubled by our thoughts, feelings or behaviour. Sometimes we are having to cope with an environment that devalues or rejects an aspect of our identity, or we just feel deep down that our lives could be lived more fully. In many cases, we arrive in therapy already knowing what we want help with; in others, this is what we come to find out. Whatever you are struggling with, I invite you to get in touch.
Training, qualifications & experience
I trained over seven years at The Minster Centre on courses accredited by BACP and UKCP. This training was integrative, which means it combined elements from several therapeutic models: psychodynamic, humanistic, existential and body-based. The way I work is also informed by contemporary ideas in attachment theory and the relational school of psychoanalysis.
During my early training, I worked as a volunteer befriender at Maytree Respite Centre for people in suicidal crisis.
Having provided counselling for over five years at a college of music and dance, I have particular experience working with younger adults, students (domestic and international), singers, musicians, composers, dancers, choreographers and actors.
I have pursued additional training on men’s issues in psychotherapy and on working with distress related to the climate crisis.

I have extensive knowledge and experience working with adults experiencing depression, stress, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma and crises. The emphasis is on people developing the skills to be self-reflective, increase understanding of their personal beliefs and values, aid psychological and emotional maturity and learn how to cope with the challenges of life more effectively, by accepting what cannot be changed and addressing what can be. My relational and philosophical approach has a focus on relationships people have with themselves, others and life in general.
