We are seeking tutors for our Introduction to Counselling Skills courses (Summer 2024 & academic year 24/25) where students are given a taster of what it is like to train at The Minster Centre. There are several formats of the course which run throughout the year:

  • Weekly intensive: runs for five consecutive days, Mon-Fri 10am-5pm.
  • Weekly: over eight or 10 weeks, 3.75/3 hrs per week.
  • Weekend: over eight or 10 weeks, Saturday, or Sunday, 3.75/3 hrs per week.

As well as courses running in the above formats, we specifically need tutor(s) to teach on the weekly 10-week course that runs on Thursdays, 6pm-9pm. There are three termly versions of this course running from October, January, and April each year.

There is also the opportunity to run a 10-week course on the weekend over the summer 2024.

All formats consist of 30-hours of student contact time. They can be on Zoom or in person. There can be some flexibility on the timings however, they are based around sessions: 10am-1pm/2pm-5pm/6pm-9pm for 10-week, 10am-5pm weekly intensive, 10am-1pm/2pm-5pm for weekend 10-week. The teaching includes integrative theoretical approaches, skills practice, and an experiential training group.

Essential requirements for the post holder include (see job description for full details):

  • Sound knowledge of Integrative Therapeutic Skills and a broad range of theoretical approaches including Object Relations, Humanistic and Existential Theories.
  • demonstrable ability to explain and facilitate student exploration of therapeutic skills.
  • demonstrable ability to hold experiential learning in a group.
  • recent experience of teaching in a psychotherapy organisation including assessing students and marking written work.
  • group facilitation skills especially awareness of working with a group of students who are likely to have little previous experience of process or therapeutic groups.
  • UKCP registration or BACP Accreditation.

 

Terms and conditions

Salary: On a PAYE basis, £1,649 for weekday courses and £1,804 for weekend courses (this includes payment for preparation, 30 hours of contact teaching and marking).

Background

The Minster Centre is a registered charity based in Queens Park, London that trains Integrative psychotherapists and counsellors.  Our courses are accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy, the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and validated by Middlesex University.  The Minster Centre also provides a psychotherapy and counselling service to the local community and has several rooms that are hired out for therapy, training, and events.

Job summary

To contribute to the provision and delivery of the Minster Centre Introduction to Counselling Skills course including teaching, assessment, quality assurance, and pastoral care.

Main areas of responsibility

  1. Teaching theory and skills, facilitating an experiential training group, and supporting the delivery of the Introduction to Counselling Skills Course, as agreed with the Course Lead.
  2. Providing tutorials for students, and supporting them at other times, as appropriate
  3. Participating in the assessment of students, including written and verbal feedback. There is one short paper which is marked by the tutor.
  4. Assisting in the monitoring of the curriculum content and delivery, and of the training standards, and their development as appropriate.
  5. Participating in professional activities that enable or enhance fulfillment of the role of Tutor on the ICS Course. This may include giving feedback about applicants to the Foundation Courses.
