Current vacancies

We are looking to recruit Associates to work alongside tutors in:

Year 1 Skills Seminars which take place on Tuesdays from 12 - 2.30pm or 3.30 – 6pm, starting in September 2024 for 3 x 10-week terms. We require 4 Associates to work with one group each.

These will be paid positions. The rate of pay is £15.90 per teaching contact hour. Additional payment for any marking undertaken will be at the same rate as tutors and there will be opportunities to attend staff training and some of our CPD events for a reduced cost.

About the Training Associate Scheme

The Minster Centre introduced a scheme in 2017 for qualified psychotherapy and counselling practitioners who wish to gain experience as trainers/tutors.  This is an opportunity to deepen your learning, develop your skills and understanding of group teaching and consolidate theoretical knowledge.  Participation in the scheme will count as CPD.

You will need to be qualified, ideally to MA level, registered with the UKCP or BACP, and not a current student at The Minster Centre. This means that you need to have successfully completed all aspects of your training.

Successful applicants will assist in Year 1 Skills seminars and exercises, be given the opportunity to work with more than one tutor, see how assessment is carried out and carry out some assessments, attend year group meetings. Tutors will take responsibility for training groups, preparing lesson plans and any decisions about the group or individual students but will work co-operatively with Associates, aiming over time to build up confidence and capacity to work independently. Some preparation time will be needed to familiarise yourself with the material to be covered.  Attendance at other meetings is not a requirement.

Successful applicants will need to agree to comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines of The Minster Centre, including those relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and the General Data Protection Regulations, and clinical governance including research governance and Codes of Practice/Ethics.

Requirements include:

  1. A sound theoretical knowledge of integrative approaches that are taught across the programmes
  2. Each module has a detailed syllabus and description of course structure. Ideally applicants will be familiar with the material of each module, either from their own training, or therapy, supervision or subsequent study and CPD. Applicants must be prepared to read widely and to prepare some of their own teaching material occasionally.
  3. The ability to apply theory to learning about clinical practice.
  4. Experience of working with groups.
  5. Readiness to contribute to student and trainer discussions.
  6. The ability to be involved in assessment of students, which includes excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  7. A commitment to attending all required seminars, relevant to the position, for the duration of the academic year or the full extent of the module, as appropriate and to prepare for sessions as necessary.
  8. A willingness to familiarise yourself with the Programme Handbooks and Assessment Guidelines.
  9. The ability to work in a team and foster good working relationships.
