Background and summary of the job
The Minster Centre is a registered charity based in Queens Park, NW6 that trains Integrative psychotherapists and counsellors. Our courses are accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and validated by Middlesex University and the Centre is registered with the Office for Students (OfS). The Minster Centre also provides a psychotherapy and counselling service to the local community (both online and in person) delivered by senior trainees.
Minster Centre Training draws on Humanistic, Existential and Psychodynamic theories including contemporary relational and embodied approaches.
The Minster Centre has made a commitment to working to increase EDI in counselling and psychotherapy. Specifically, increasing the diversity of members of the profession, increasing the accessibility and suitability of counselling and psychotherapy for all communities and identities, making our training more accessible and relevant to trainees from all backgrounds and intersectionalities, and equipping the therapists we train to work in a diverse society. As an experiential training and one that seeks to work at depth this is important work that leads us to question and explore our assumptions as therapists and trainers and to explore and challenge our own identities. You will be invited to join us in additional training and reflection as part of this work.
Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will teach trainees in their first year of training towards qualification as either counsellors or psychotherapists. We take a maximum of 52 students into the first year and this group is divided into two cohorts, each with a Course Leader. Cohorts are divided into two groups with 12-13 students in each group. First year students take four modules – Skills, From Objects Relations to Current Psychodynamic Thinking, Humanistic and Existential Models of Psychotherapy and Counselling, and Experiential Training Group. The Humanistic Module runs for 15 weeks. Applicants will teach one cohort (which will mean they teach 2.5 hours each week for the 30-week academic year and will take part in the assessment of around 24 students).
